Kopitiam loyalty is the small set of retention mechanics — usually a digital tab, a 10-kopi punch, or a WhatsApp reward — that Singapore coffeeshops and hawker stalls use to convert walk-ins into named regulars.

In Singapore, 'kopitiam loyalty' covers a narrow but high-leverage problem: kopitiams and hawker stalls see the same uncles and aunties every morning, but until very recently had no way to recognise them at checkout, let alone reach them when they stopped coming. The category is now defined by three mechanics that actually scale in a coffeeshop environment.
First is the digital tab — the customer's PayNow handle becomes their loyalty ID, with no app to download. Second is the WhatsApp Business reward — operators send a one-line note ("Auntie, your kopi-o is on us this morning, no need to scan") to the top 50 churn-risk regulars every week. Third is the SGQR cashback — small (S$0.50–S$1) cashback credited the next time the customer pays via SGQR, used as a low-friction win-back.
