The datasets behind our numbers
Every statistic on a PEKO answers, glossary or report page is traceable to one of the datasets below, to a named external source, or to a PEKO estimate. This page describes each dataset: what it contains, how large it is, the period it covers, how figures are calculated from it, and what it cannot tell you.

How we label a number
- PEKO merchant data, Vietnam, [period]
- The figure is measured on the PEKO Vietnam merchant panel described below. The period after the label is the measurement window.
- PEKO estimate
- The figure is modelled, not measured: it comes from a calculation, an operator interview range, or a Vietnamese base applied to another market. Treat it as directional.
- Named source, year, link
- The figure belongs to someone else — a platform's published fee schedule, a government decision, an industry report or academic literature — and we link to it.
Measured on PEKO data
PEKO Vietnam merchant panel
- Sample
- 1,200 F&B outlets running PEKO in Vietnam — independent venues and groups of 1–10 outlets: cafés, casual-dining restaurants, quick-service counters, bubble-tea and dessert venues, and food-court tenants. Venues open under 6 months, and venues with fewer than 200 identified transactions in the window, are excluded.
- Period
- January 2024 – June 2026, on a rolling 12-month basis per venue
- How figures are calculated
- Transactions are matched to a resolved member identity (phone number or messaging ID). Return visits, repeat rate, visit cadence and average ticket are computed per venue, then reported as ranges across venues — never as a single site-wide average. Anonymous walk-ins are excluded from both sides of every calculation, because a receipt with no identity cannot be matched to a later visit.
- Limits
- The spread between venues is wide, and venues that capture few member identities sit outside the range — which is why every figure from this panel is published as a range with its measurement window attached, not as a point estimate.

PEKO deployment case-study library
- Sample
- Over 200 venue deployment records from the Vietnam merchant panel: each record holds the venue's before-and-after figures across its first 90 days on PEKO — repeat rate, average ticket, identified-guest count and message response rate.
- Period
- Q4 2025 – Q1 2026
- How figures are calculated
- Figures quoted from the library are medians across the records available for that venue type, not averages, so a handful of standout venues cannot move the number.
- Limits
- The inclusion rules and the venue-type breakdown of this library are not yet published in full here, and the records are not independently audited — so every figure citing this library is published as a PEKO estimate until that documentation lands on this page.

Qualitative interviews · documentation in progress
Vietnam F&B operator interview cohort
- Sample
- 80 independent operators in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi — owners and managers of single venues and small groups, interviewed about fees, retention tactics, staffing at the counter, and messaging channels.
- Period
- Q4 2025 – Q1 2026
- How figures are calculated
- Interviews are qualitative. Where a number appears from them it is the range operators reported, not a measured value from their systems.
- Limits
- Two cities only, self-reported figures, and the question set is not yet published here — so numbers sourced from these interviews are labelled PEKO estimate and stated as ranges, never as market averages.

Modelled
Malaysia, Singapore and Philippines modelled figures
- Sample
- The same 1,200-outlet Vietnam panel, held constant on venue type, transaction cadence and average-ticket band, then applied to the target market.
- Period
- Rolling 12 months to July 2026
- How figures are calculated
- Figures are measured in Vietnam and modelled for Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines. Each market report states which of its numbers are measured and which are modelled, and every modelled figure is stated as a range.
- Limits
- PEKO has no local measurement base in these markets yet, so these figures are directional — each report will be re-issued with locally measured figures once a local base exists.

- Published sources only. Platform fees and messaging prices carry the date we last checked them on the provider's own page; legal figures cite the decision or decree number.
- Period
- Each figure carries its own check date on the page it appears on
- How figures are calculated
- We quote external figures as published and never re-average them into our own numbers. Where a source publishes a range, we publish the same range.
- Limits
- Platform pricing and commission terms change without notice and vary by contract, so the figure on our page is the published rate on the date shown — an individual venue's contract is the authority for that venue.

Questions about our data
- What does "PEKO estimate" mean on a PEKO page?
- It means the figure is modelled rather than measured: derived from a calculation, from operator interviews, or from our Vietnamese measurement base applied to another market. Estimates are always stated as ranges and are never presented as audited results.
- Which numbers on the site are measured?
- Retention, repeat-rate, visit-cadence and average-ticket figures measured on the 1,200-outlet PEKO Vietnam merchant panel between January 2024 and June 2026. Those carry the label PEKO merchant data, Vietnam, with the period attached.
- Where do the platform fee figures come from?
- From each platform's own published schedule, with the date we last checked it printed next to the figure. Contract terms differ by venue, so a venue's own monthly statement is the authority for that venue.
- How should I cite a PEKO figure?
- Cite the page it appears on, the figure's label, and the check date printed with it — for example: Peko Research Team, PEKO merchant data Vietnam (Jan 2024 – Jun 2026), retrieved from heypeko.com.
