    1. Pick the customer-facing channel (2 min)

    Choose where customers will view their balance and redeem. In Vietnam, Zalo OA or a Zalo mini-app is the default because customers already have Zalo. In other markets, WhatsApp Business or LINE. Do NOT require a new native app — install friction erases the entire 'no-cashier' advantage.

    2. Turn on receipt OCR (3 min)

    Connect an F&B-purpose-built OCR service (PEKO or equivalent) to the messaging channel. Configuration needs: shop name, current POS model (so the system learns your receipt layout), and a sample photo of a real receipt.

    FAQ

    Do customers need to install an app?

    No. All three methods open in the browser (QR) or inside a messaging channel the customer already uses (receipt scan). Requiring an app install would erase the entire advantage of self-serve enrolment.

    Can OCR read faded or crumpled receipts?

    Modern OCR reads receipts at 90–97% accuracy when ink is clear and the paper isn't heavily creased. Very faded, thermally-burned, or torn receipts fail and route to a manual review queue — a staffer approves them in 1–2 minutes. Real failure rate in F&B is typically 3–7%.

    Do I have to replace my POS?

    No. That's the central point of receipt OCR: it reads the printed bill instead of calling a POS API. It runs alongside any POS — Toast, Square, Clover, KiotViet, iPOS, Sapo, MISA, and older POSes with no API at all.

    What if a customer scans the same receipt multiple times to cheat?

    The standard defense has three layers: (1) a receipt hash (bill number + print time + total) auto-rejects duplicates; (2) a per-customer daily cap of 3–5 submissions blocks bill-sharing; (3) anomaly review queues flag unusual patterns (amounts outside the shop's normal range, submissions outside opening hours, new accounts submitting many receipts).     Does OCR work on handwritten receipts?
